Consequences of a DUI conviction

A DUI conviction can have serious consequences, including substantial fines and potential jail time, the suspension of your license, and increased insurance costs. After the suspension period has ended, you must pay a reinstatement fee and purchase SR-22 insurance before regaining your license. You will also have to enroll in and complete an alcohol and drug safety action program (ADSAP) before regaining your license.  DUI is a graduated offense, which means that the fines, potential jail time, and suspension period increase each time you are convicted.

South Carolina's new drunk driving law went into effect on February 10, 2009. South Carolina's DUI laws now have severe potential penalties with a graduated system based on the blood alcohol level, and mandatory minimum jail sentences even for first offenders based on the breathalyzer results.

A DUI conviction can have serious and long-lasting consequences. If you are facing a drunk driving charge, it is important that you contact an experienced DUI attorney to protect your rights.
